I’ve spent near every day of my life thinking about death:
Fearing death, yearning for death, coming to peace with death.
Life has shown me it can steal away the best of us at any time…
The randomness of it, the suddenness of it.
The Question became: how should I live such that I regret nothing, and yearn for nothing?
I have, at long last, found my answer.
If I died tomorrow and had one final message to the world, it would be this:
my final address
I’m happy to be remembered
And laughed about over a drink.
But some long time ago I realized
That was far from the point of all this.
My legacy isn’t complicated.
Where there are smiles, burdened
By the weight of the world
I am there, lifting that weight.
I did everything in service of a day I wouldn’t see,
When all can share the joy I fought to achieve
Quite simply,
A smile that costs nothing,
That hides nothing,
And that wants for nothing.
Until the very end of time and with all of my heart
I wish you well, my cherished people.
To you all I owe every ounce of joy I reaped
And more.
As you hoped, I planted
Countless seeds of my heart,
Many of which are already blossoming
And bearing magnificent, restorative fruits.
It was more than I could have ever hoped for
To have the chance to live and love as I did.
Spread healing in my memory
Until we are as one again.
Humbly,
